For the Love of Prague

Prague has to be one of my favorite places to visit. Not only
is it extremely affordable, the city offers an endless amount of charm and warmth
that is difficult to replicate. I mean it’s hard not to like a place where you
can get a glass of wine for less than $5.

After arriving in Prague from Vienna where the architectural
styles are primarily neo-classical/baroque, I found the beautiful Gothic style architecture
in Prague so warm and intriguing. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the architecture
in both cities but Prague really won my heart.

I stayed at Sophie’s Hostel located in the New Town of
Prague. I opted for a single room with an attached bathroom- rare in the hostel
world. Being that the hostel was a sister of the boutique Miss Sophie’s Hotel across
the street, it was filled with endless amounts of charm and boutique hotel
appeal. It was walking distance to almost everything and the area felt safe and
clean.

The city itself is very walkable. When walking into the old city
I would suggest avoiding the Charles bridge and taking the bridge that runs parallel
to it. It is far less busy and you will get a great view of the city. I found
that right before sunset is the best time to cross over the Charles Bridge,
while still busy it was more manageable. I would also suggest stopping into Manufaktura
for a traditional Czech egg or another handcrafted gift.

Understandably, Prague is constantly inundated with tourists.
Just as I would recommend with almost every busy European city, try to go
during the ‘off season.’ I was there the end of October and while still busy, I
was able to navigate the city without feeling like I’m in Pamplona.
